This week's CodeMap Compliance Briefing is in response to several requests for information concerning reflex testing and the associated compliance issues. The practice of performing reflex testing under certain conditions poses compliance concerns similar to those discussed in last week's briefing concerning custom panels. With both practices, clinical laboratories must ensure that their ordering clients know what tests will be performed, and that only medically reasonable and necessary tests are performed and billed for beneficiaries of federally funded health care programs.
