A number of readers have submitted questions regarding coding and coverage for fecal occult blood tests(FOBTs). As noted in previous briefings, the 2006 CPT includes two new FOBT codes and a major revision of the existing code for traditional guaiac based tests. In this week's briefing we will attempt to sort out the various coding, coverage and date of service rules for both screening and diagnostic FOBTs.
