In our February 24th Compliance Briefing we discussed Medicare's new Pay for Performance (P4P) initiatives and how they may effect future laboratory payments. Today we will summarize the Physician Voluntary Reporting Program (PVRP) that CMS will use to tabulate the quality measures that will eventually be used to implement P4P. Although the PVRP applies only to physicians, it is a good indicator of how CMS plans to implement P4P for laboratories and other providers in the future. In addition, many of the quality measures will probably be based on laboratory values as illustrated in the examples included in today's CodeMap Compliance Briefing.
