On July 31, 2006, CMS announced the award of the first Part A and Part B Medicare Administrator Contractor (MAC) engagement. MACs will eventually replace both Medicare Carriers and Fiscal Intermediaries as the primary federal contractors responsible for processing and handling both Part A and Part B claims. MACs represent a significant change in the administration of the Medicare program that will affect most of our subscribers. This week's CodeMap Compliance Briefing will review the impact of Medicare's changeover to MACs, as well as the details of the first contract award, which will directly affect our subscribers in Arizona, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
