Today we will discuss how to use the new CPT code for hemoglobin A1c performed by devices cleared by the FDA for home use in relation to the still existing code for hemoglobin A1c determined by other methods. There has been considerable confusion about exactly how to use the new code since Medicare and most other payers do not cover patient self-testing for A1c.
