The latest group of Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs), Version 1.1, will become effective April 1, 2007. These edits are primarily based on anatomically impossible or unlikely code pairs. However, an additional group of MUEs that includes many clinical laboratory tests is currently being circulated to professional laboratory associations for comment, and are expected to be implemented July 1, 2007. Today’s CodeMap® Compliance Briefing will discuss how Medicare contractors will implement the MUEs, and the consequences to clinical laboratory providers. You may wish to refer to the December 19, 2006, CodeMap® Compliance Briefing for additional information concerning the creation of MUEs.
