CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 9/21/07

Editor's Welcome:

Recently, the press has covered the increasing incidence of hospital borne infections caused by, "superbugs," or bacteria that is resistant to conventional antibiotics. Following the press coverage, a handful of state legislatures have debated and/or passed legislation to help combat these costly, and sometimes deadly infections. In addition, Medicare is now strongly encouraging all providers to take measures to eliminate preventable illnesses by promulgating rules and regulations that disallow reimbursement for many tests and services necessitated by hospital borne infections. Today's briefing will examine the Medicare coding, reimbursement, and coverage implications of superbugs, in particular MRSA.

Sincerely,

Gregory Root, Esq.
