CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 10/12/07
Editor's Welcome:
Many of our subscribers have inquired about recent announcements from CMS that the Medicare program will no longer reimburse for the cost of care attributable to preventable errors. More specifically, these inquiries often concern the impact these new provisions will have on hospital based laboratories and infection control programs that include specific types of testing protocols. This week, we will examine the new provisions in the Medicare program that expand the number of DRGs used to report inpatient conditions, restrict reimbursement for a limited number of preventable errors, and require hospitals to report additional aspects of an inpatient's care to Medicare contractors. We will also discuss how all these changes will affect hospital based clinical laboratories. As always, please send your questions, comments, and suggestions via email.
Sincerely,
Gregory Root, Esq.
