The next two weeks we will be discussing the recently announced changes in CPT codes for hematology procedures that will occur January 1, 2003. The American Medical Association's Editorial Panel (AMA) has reworked virtually all of the existing CPT codes concerning hematology for 2003. This week we will examine the changes for automated blood counts and next week we will conclude our discussion with the new and revised codes for manual blood counts and smears. HEMATOLOGY CPT CODING CHANGES

Listed below you will find the revised and deleted CPT codes for automated blood counts that will become effective January 1, 2003. The changes for 2003 should make hematology coding simpler and more in line with current laboratory technology.
