As promised, this week the Friday Compliance Briefing will continue our discussion of the significant changes that will take place in the 2003 CPT concerning hematology coding. Last Friday we discussed the revisions and deletions for codes used to report automated CBCs. This week we will examine the changes for codes describing manual cell counts and blood smears. HEMATOLOGY CPT CODING CHANGES

Listed below you will find the revised and deleted CPT codes for manual cell counts and blood smears that will become effective January 1, 2003. The changes for 2003 should make hematology coding simpler and more in line with current laboratory technology.

NEW/REVISED CPT CODES
