The 2008 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule contains a number of changes affecting clinical laboratories, including the addition of a reconsideration process for setting payment amounts for new codes on the Medicare Laboratory Fee Schedule. The changes discussed below are intended to add transparency to the fee setting process and allow stakeholders additional time to provide the information needed by CMS to arrive at rational payment levels.
