Recently, CMS announced its intention to significantly expand the National Coverage Determination (NCD) concerning home PT/INR monitoring. This NCD may be found at §190.11 of the Medicare NCD manual, and to date is the only national coverage policy concerning home testing and monitoring. The proposed expansion is interesting because not only is the NCD unique in its subject matter, but also this type of testing presents many questions concerning home testing and its treatment, coverage, and reimbursement implications.
