Editor's Welcome: As most of you know, CMS recently published its final rule implementing the 2009 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. In addition to the many anticipated changes concerning reimbursement for physician services, the final rule contains heavily revised anti-markup provisions concerning diagnostic procedures. The final anti-markup provisions differ significantly from CMS' earlier proposals included in proposed rules this past summer, and the 2008 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. This week we examine the requirements and components of the anti-markup rules that take effect January 1, 2009. Please email any questions, comments, or suggestions.
