CMS finally released the 2009 Medicare Laboratory Fee Schedule on December 19, 2008 - just 12 days before the January 1, 2009, effective date. This CodeMap Compliance Briefing recaps both the expected and unexpected changes concerning Medicare reimbursement included in the latest laboratory fee schedule. As expected, fees reflected a 4.5% across the board increase for all existing tests plus fees for 7 new CPT codes. As previously reported in the 10/8/09 CodeMap Compliance Briefing, CMS's preliminary payment recommendations appeared to largely ignore industry recommendations received during the July stakeholders' meeting.
