CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 1/30/2009

Editor's Welcome:

On August 22, 2008, CMS published a Proposed Rule that would have required the final adoption of the ICD-10 code set on October 1, 2011, less than two years from now. Most healthcare providers and payers, while agreeing that ICD-10 should be adopted, felt the 2011 implementation date was unrealistic in light of the masssive changes required to switch from the presently used ICD-9 to the significantly more comprehensive ICD-10. The Final Rule, published earlier this month, addresses these concerns and sets a more realistic date for adoption. This week's CodeMap Compliance Briefing will discuss some of the far-reaching implications of the adoption of ICD-10, and the potential costs. As always, please forward any questions, comments, or suggestions via email to me, or the author of today's briefing.

Sincerely,
