Three weeks ago, I attended a public meeting held by CMS to gather input on how to set reimbursement rates for new laboratory procedure codes. This week's CodeMap Compliance Briefing discusses those new procedure codes that will appear in the 2010 Medicare Laboratory Fee Schedule. The 2010 fee schedule will include more new codes than usual including two HCPCS codes developed by CMS to address issues surrounding in-office drug testing. Next week, we will discuss the processes by which these codes are created and how CMS determines the associated Medicare reimbursement amounts.
