CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 8/23/2010

Editor's Welcome:

When a specific analyte or procedure can not be found in the CPT, coding rules require the use of the most appropriate "method" code to report the test. Chromatography procedures comprise one of the most commonly type of method codes. However, care must be used in selecting the correct code, and determining how many times a particular code should be reported to account for multiple results. Today, we will summarize the coding rules pertaining to chromatography tests and procedures as outlined in the current CPT manual. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Gregory Root, Esq.
