The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will hold its annual public meeting July 16 and 17 to hear recommendations on how new laboratory procedure codes included in the 2013 Medicare Laboratory Fee Schedule should be paid. As you may recall, CMS delayed making any payment decisions on the 92 new molecular pathology codes included in the 2012 CPT. However, the existing "stacked codes" currently used to describe DNA/RNA based tests will be deleted in the 2013 CPT, thus, it is time for CMS to step up and decide how the 2012 molecular pathology codes should be paid. In addition, CMS must decide how to reimburse 26 unrelated codes recently added to the 2013 CPT. Today's CodeMap® Compliance Briefing will examine ....
