With the advent of new codes for algorithm based assays, the AMA has added several new instructions to the 2013 CPT concerning calculated tests and procedures. Today's CodeMap® Compliance Briefing will review not only these new instructions, but also the impact of CMS' preliminary policy regarding coding and payment for Multianalyte Assays with Algorithmic Analyses (MAAAs). We did our best to bring clarity to these issues, however, as you will see, some of the new instructions are anything but clear. As is often the case, we may have to wait for further instructions from the AMA and CMS before we truly understand the impact of these developments.
