In late 2012, CMS instructed its local Medicare contractors to use "gap filling" to set fees for over 100 new Molecular Pathology CPT codes effective January 1, 2013. Each contractor must come up with payment amounts for all of the new codes and submit them to CMS by April 1, 2013. CMS is then required to post all fees and their mean on the CMS website by the end of April. A few contractors have already posted fees and others have promised to do so in the coming weeks. However, most contractors will probably not report their fees for these services until the April 1 deadline. Obviously, this leaves a majority of providers completely in the dark as to what they will be paid in the upcoming months for molecular ....
