Several weeks ago, we reviewed the direct billing rules of Medicare and how they apply to providers of clinical laboratory and pathology services. In those CodeMap® Compliance Briefings, we also promised to review the related topic of the bundling of laboratory tests and services into Medicare's Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS). Since 2014, CMS has not paid for these services separately when performed for hospital outpatients.
