It is common knowledge that Medicare Part B pays for specimen collection services. However, not everyone understands that Medicare Part B also reimburses for travel expenses associated with medically necessary specimen collection. Today, we will discuss how Medicare covers the costs for a laboratory technician to draw a specimen from either a nursing home patient or homebound patient. These reimbursement amounts are included in the Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS) and updated annually. As always, please forward your questions, comments, and suggestions via email.
