Compliance requires a comprehensive understanding of the federally funded health care programs and their accompanying laws, rules, and regulations. Health care providers that participate in these programs must be fluent in the language of compliance that includes numerous terms, abbreviations, and concepts that are often unique to the health care industry. Failure to recognize, understand, and use this vocabulary will weaken any provider organization's efforts to remain in full compliance. In past CodeMap® Radiology Briefings, we have discussed the specialized vocabularies associated with coding, reimbursement, and the administration of the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
