As the following CodeMap® Radiology Briefing will demonstrate, the federal government has been busy investigating, discovering, and prosecuting health care fraud and abuse. Many federal agencies including the Office of Inspector General of DHHS (OIG) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are taking advantage of greater manpower and resources provided by last year's Affordable Care Act. In addition, President Obama has initiated many federal programs designed to reduce fraud, abuse, and waste of federal tax dollars dedicated to the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Although many high-profile enforcement actions involve egregious fraud, please remember that these agencies are also using their resources to investigate lesser offenses of abuse, waste and non-compliance.
