CodeMap® 11/03/2016: 2017 ICD-10 Codes and NCDs

CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: November 3, 2016

Editor's Welcome:

We have received numerous emails and calls recently concerning claims denials that began shortly after October 1, 2016. Today's briefing will alert our subscribers to a troubling problem with CMS' implementation of the 2017 ICD-10 code set and the October 1 update to CMS National Coverage Determinations (NCDs). These implementation issues will require many clinical laboratories to pay special attention to claims governed by NCDs over the next quarter. Failure to do so will result in inappropriate denials from Medicare contractors and the potential for significant lost revenue. Today, we will also discuss what actions your laboratory can take to avoid these adverse consequences.
