CodeMap® 07/11/2018: Preventive Laboratory Services, Part 1

CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: July 11, 2018

Editor's Welcome:

When Congress originally enacted the Social Security Act in 1965, the laws that created the Medicare program did not cover screening or preventive care services. Since that time, Congress has extended Medicare coverage to several types of laboratory and pathology screening services. Medicare defines any test or procedure performed in the absence of signs or symptoms of illness, injury, or a malformed body part as a “screening” service. Today, we begin a two part series that explains which screening tests are covered by Medicare and the associated procedure and diagnosis codes. As always, please forward any questions, comments, and/or suggestions via email.
