Often, providers employ CPT codes to report healthcare services without realizing that these procedure codes are only one component of a larger coding system known as Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System or HCPCS. Today's CodeMap Compliance Briefing will serve as a refresher course covering the HCPCS Coding System and the sometimes confusing, associated nomenclature. Although there is only one official procedure coding system, HCPCS, it is made up of several levels and kinds of codes, which describe the many tests and procedures performed by our subscribers.
