Effective October 1 of each year, CMS updates the diagnosis code set as required by HIPAA. This code set is called the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM). All providers should pay close attention to their billing, claims submissions, and other information systems to ensure compliance with these HIPAA standardized code set requirements. Now is the time to make sure your organization has effective plans in place to load the 2026 changes into the system(s) you are using to submit claims to Medicare.
